Bad Gastein Austria

Bad Gastein lies in the historic Pongau region; its municipal area of about 171 square kilometres (66 sq mi) is the largest in the St. Johann im Pongau District. It extends along the upper Gastein Valley, following the course of the Gastein Ache, a right-hand tributary of the Salzach. The valley separates the Hohe Tauern’s Ankogel Group in the east from the Goldberg Group in the west. The town centre is situated at the Gastein Falls, at around 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) above sea level, and is marked by numerous historic multi-storey hotel buildings set on steep slopes. The municipal area also includes Böckstein and Remsach. Its southern parts form part of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
