Angers is a medium-sized French city and the capital of the Maine-et-Loire department in the north-western Pays de la Loire region. It offers visitors a mix of typical French nightlife, historic streets and great shopping. The town is also full of floral displays. Angers is mad about flowers, bringing a fine splash of colour to the town, with parks and gardens, fountains and statues that create oases of calm in this lively modern city. The historic centre is home to many impressive townhouses dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS House of Adam The medieval House of Adam (Maison d'Adam) features a collection of sculptures depicting the Tree of Life and the David of Angers Gallery, dedicated to one of France’s most famous sculptors, whose busts and statues adorn many of the country’s main historic monuments. Angers Castle Angers Castle is located in the city of Angers in the Loire Valley. Founded in the 9th century by the Counts of Anjou, it was expanded to its current size in the 13th century. Overlooking the River Maine, it is now open to the public and houses the famous Apocalypse Tapestry. Terra Botanica Terra Botanica is a family-friendly amusement and botanical park in Angers. It is the first theme park dedicated to plant life. Terra Botanica offers more than 40 attractions and shows set within 110,000 m² of gardens, all centred on the world of plants and nature.
