Baru, Colombia

Baru Colombia

Baru is an island enclosed by the Bay of Cartagena, the Canal del Dique and the Caribbean Sea. It’s a popular holiday spot with white and pink sand beaches and crystal-clear water, where you can see right down to the seabed and its many colourful fish. Nearby there are streams lined with mangroves, calm reflective waters and underwater gardens. Birdwatching is a popular pastime here. You could say this destination is an open-air museum, but it offers more than culture and history. Walking along Baru’s beaches is an extraordinary experience. It is still relatively undeveloped, so peace and quiet are its defining traits. The natural surroundings and the warmth of the Colombian people blend beautifully with the scenery. Locals from Cartagena often refer to this island as “paradise on earth.”
