Floridablanca Colombia

Floridablanca (locally often shortened to Florída, with the stress on the second syllable) is a town in the department of Santander, sitting at 925 metres (3,035 ft) in the Eastern Range of the Colombian Andes. It forms part of the metropolitan area of the departmental capital, Bucaramanga. Floridablanca is known for its parks and for the Piedra del Sol, a large rock carved with spirals and circles by the Guane people over 1,000 years ago. The town is home to the tallest statue of Jesus Christ in Colombia, “El Santísimo”. The statue is 40 metres (130 ft) tall and weighs 40 tonnes (88,000 lb). Floridablanca lies on Ruta Nacional 45A, a branch of the Pan American Highway that links the capital, Bogotá, with Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast and with Cúcuta, the gateway to Venezuela. Along with the neighbouring municipalities of Bucaramanga, Girón and Piedecuesta, Floridablanca is one of the main growth areas for the Santander capital, with a large amount of construction in recent years.
