Frómista Spain

Frómista is a town in the province of Palencia, in the region of Castile and León in Spain. As of 2009, it had a population of around 822 people. In earlier centuries, Frómista had a much larger community, largely supported by wheat farming. Today it is an important overnight stop for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James). The Church of San Martín de Tours in Frómista was funded in part by the widow of Sancho the Great of Navarre, who brought in specialist craftsmen to build it in the style of Jaca Cathedral. Another church in the town, Santa María del Castillo, is near the train station. It is no longer used for regular worship and is usually kept locked.
