Gallarate Italy

Gallarate is a city and comune in the Alto Milanese area of Lombardy and the Milan metropolitan area in northern Italy, within the Province of Varese. It has a population of around 54,000 people. It is a railway junction for lines to Varese, Laveno and Arona (for the Simplon). Around 10 kilometres (6 miles) to the west are the electric works at Vizzola, where 23,000 hp are generated from the River Ticino. Its territory is crossed by the River Arnetta and forms part of the Ticino River Natural Park. The city had a strong textile industry in the first part of the 19th century. Like other nearby towns, such as Casorate Sempione and Samarate, its name comes from Latin.
