Gloucester United Kingdom

Gloucester is the county town of Gloucestershire in England’s West Country. Sitting at the gateway to this beautiful region, it’s a historic cathedral city on the River Severn, close to the Welsh border. Founded by the Romans in AD 97 as Glevum, it lies around two hours west of London. To the east are the picture‑postcard Cotswolds, while to the west you’ll find the Forest of Dean. Roughly halfway between Oxford to the east, Cardiff to the west, Bristol to the south and Birmingham to the north – all about an hour away – Gloucester works both as a handy base for exploring the wider region and as a destination in its own right. Beyond its excellent location, the city has plenty to offer in the way of attractions, restaurants and pubs to keep any visitor busy. Gloucester is very much a city on the rise and hosted a number of matches in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Recent development has helped it grow into an important regional centre with its own distinct lifestyle and culture. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose an afternoon and evening lingering over coffees and pints in its many cafés and pubs.
