Pampaneira Spain

Pampaneira is a village in the province of Granada in southern Spain. It is one of three mountain villages in the Barranco de Poqueira in the Alpujarras region; the other two, Bubión and Capileira, lie higher up the Poqueira gorge. The gorge begins below the summit of Mulhacén, where the Poqueira River rises, and the surrounding area offers extensive walking and hiking opportunities. Local tourist offices organise guided walks and sell mountain-hiking equipment, while specialist companies arrange self-guided treks. The nearest sizeable town is Órgiva, and Trevélez—one of the highest permanently inhabited villages in Spain—lies further east in the mountains. All three villages offer accommodation, with Capileira having the widest range of places to stay and visitor facilities. To the north, the Sierra Nevada range opens out, dominated by some of Spain’s highest peaks, including Mulhacén and Alcazaba.
