Khiva is a town in the western province of Khorezm in the Republic. It may have the most homogeneous collection of Islamic architecture in the world, full of stunning mosques and madrasahs. Its historic centre, Itchan Kala, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city of Khiva is considered the pearl of the Khorezm oasis. Khiva, a truly ancient city, is counted among the Seven Wonders of the World. Most of its architectural masterpieces are located within the old fortress, including towering eastern-style minarets, grand madrasah buildings and other historic sites. They are richly decorated with fascinating mosaics and intricate ornaments.
