Amer India

Also known in ancient times as Amer, Amber was a historic city in the state of Rajasthan that served as a refuge for the Rajputs, helping them to defend against possible attacks by the Mughal army coming from Delhi. Tucked in among high hills, Amber is now best known for the famous Amber Fort, an unmissable sight on any visit to Jaipur, just 11 km away. Originally built by the Meenas as a tribute to the goddess Amba, or “Gatta Rani”, Amber Fort is a palatial complex that stands on a sun temple dating back to 955. Today this fascinating landmark invites visitors to climb up and wander through its grand gateways, lush gardens and terraces, and to enjoy unrivalled views over Maotha Lake, where the golden light of sunrise blends beautifully with the marble and red sandstone of the fort.
