River Kwai Thailand

The Kwai Noi River (a small tributary), also known as Kwai Sai Yok and more commonly called the River Kwai, is a river in western Thailand. It rises to the east of the Salween on the north–south spine of the Bilauktaung range, though not on the border with Burma. The river is best known for its association with Pierre Boulle’s novel *The Bridge on the River Kwai* and its film adaptation. It was also used as a filming location in Michael Cimino’s Oscar‑winning film *The Deer Hunter*. There are several attractions near the bridge over this river and all along its course. You’ll also find dozens of different types of accommodation along the river, making it a perfect option if you want to experience an authentic side of Thailand. Don’t leave without getting to know the local culture, taking in the beautiful landscapes and sampling the regional food.
