Legnano is a historic town and municipality in the province of Milan, about 20 kilometres northwest of the city centre. With around 60,000 inhabitants, it is the thirteenth most populous municipality in Lombardy. Located in the Alto Milanese area and crossed by the Olona River, Legnano has a rich heritage dating back to Roman times. It is best known for the Battle of Legnano in 1176, when the Lombard League defeated Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, a key event in Italian history.
