Lake Maggiore, Italy

Lake Maggiore Italy

Lake Maggiore is a large lake on the southern side of the Alps, in the Italian Lake District, with its northern shores in Switzerland. It’s the second-largest lake in Italy and the largest in southern Switzerland. The lake and its shoreline are shared between the Italian regions of Piedmont and Lombardy, and the Swiss canton of Ticino. Lying roughly halfway between Lake Orta and Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore stretches for about 65 km between Locarno and Arona. The beautiful countryside around Lake Maggiore offers outstanding facilities for conferences and events. The wider area, including the provinces of Novara and Varese and Canton Ticino, combines natural and artistic treasures with a long tradition of hosting meetings and conventions. Nearby natural parks include Val Grande National Park, Italy’s largest wilderness area, the Alpe Veglia and Devero Regional Park, and the Macugnaga Wildlife Oasis on the lower slopes of Monte Rosa. The Lake Maggiore region is known for its historic villages, unspoilt valleys, and spectacular views over the lake and surrounding mountains. The Walser people have left a distinctive architectural legacy in the villages of Macugnaga in the Anzasca Valley and Formazza in the Formazza Valley. The age-old settlements of the Vigezzo Valley are charmingly picturesque, with houses and churches typical of the Alpine landscape.
