Livingston is a town in the Izabal Department in eastern Guatemala, at the mouth of the Río Dulce where it meets the Gulf of Honduras. The town is the municipal seat of the municipality of the same name and was Guatemala’s main Caribbean port before nearby Puerto Barrios was built. Livingston is known for its distinctive mix of Garífuna, Afro-Caribbean, Maya and Ladino peoples and cultures, and in recent decades it has developed a substantial tourism industry.
