Machachi is the county town of Mejía Canton in the Pichincha province of Ecuador. Machachi is located to the south of Ecuador’s capital, Quito. It is a very beautiful town surrounded by the volcanoes Atacazo, Corazón, Rumiñahui, the Illinizas peaks, Viudita Hill, Pasochoa and Sincholagua, and includes part of the Cotopaxi volcano, a large active volcano. The valley contains eight volcanoes, which is one of the reasons why Alexander von Humboldt called the region the “Avenue of Volcanoes”.
