Nubra Valley India

Nubra is a subdivision and tehsil in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. Its inhabited areas lie in a three‑armed valley carved out by the Nubra and Shyok rivers. Its Tibetan name, Ldumra, means “the valley of flowers”. Diskit, the main town and headquarters of Nubra, is about 150 km north of Leh, the capital of Ladakh. The Shyok River meets the Nubra (or Siachan) River to form a wide valley separating the Ladakh and Karakoram ranges. The Shyok River is a tributary of the Indus. The valley sits at an average altitude of about 10,000 feet (3,048 metres) above sea level. The usual way to reach the valley is by crossing Khardung La pass from the town of Leh. Foreign nationals must obtain a Protected Area Permit to visit Nubra Valley. Since 1 April 2017, Indian citizens have also been required to obtain an Inner Line Permit to travel there.
