Cangas de Onís, Spain

Cangas de Onís Spain

Cangas de Onís is a town and municipality in the eastern part of the province and autonomous community of Asturias. The town of Cangas de Onís, capital of the area of the same name, sits in the valley formed by the rivers Sella and Güeña. The most iconic feature of the town is its Roman Bridge, which was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1931. Cangas de Onís has historic, scenic and adventure tourism appeal for several reasons. It is very close to the popular village of Covadonga, the scene of a historic battle, and lies on the edge of the Picos de Europa mountains. Just a few kilometres down the road is the town of Arriondas, a hub for adventure sports. If you’re planning a holiday in Asturias with a focus on the region’s natural beauty – walking, canoeing, climbing, or simply relaxing in the heart of “green Spain” – then Cangas de Onís and the villages around it are an ideal place to stay.
