Llanes, Spain

Llanes Spain

Llanes is a town and municipality in the province of Asturias. To the south it is bordered by the high limestone ridge of the Sierra del Cuera, which rises to over 1,100 metres. The area forms part of Spain’s Costa Verde (Green Coast), known for its spectacular coastal scenery, with 32 white-sand beaches and mountains covered in a deep green mantle. Llanes has the look and feel of a historic town. Its old quarter has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site and preserves important examples of civil, religious and military architecture. The San Pedro walk, San Antón, the River Carrocedo and the harbour are the main focal points of life in Llanes, which in the past was an important fishing and whaling port. Among other historic structures, it still has more than 300 metres of pre-Romanesque wall dating from the 13th century, and the Castle Tower, which now houses the Tourist Office.
