Portopalo di Capo Passero (Sicilian: Puortupalu) is a town and municipality in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily, Italy. The southernmost municipality on the island of Sicily, it lies about 220 kilometres southeast of Palermo and about 45 kilometres southwest of Syracuse. As of February 2017, it had a population of 3,916 and covered an area of 14.9 square kilometres. The nearest town is Pachino, with a population of nearly 10,000. Portopalo was part of the municipality of Pachino until 1975, when it became an independent municipality. Portopalo is widely regarded as offering some of the best fishing in the Mediterranean, thanks to its location at the meeting point of the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas and its mild climate, with average temperatures between 14° and 25 °C.
