Posada Barrancas, Mexico

Posada Barrancas Mexico

It is the deepest canyon in Chihuahua and in Mexico. It begins where the Copper and Tararecua ravines meet. It is the best‑known ravine in the sierra because it can be seen from Divisadero station on the Chihuahua al Pacífico “Chepe” railway, although many people confuse it with Barranca del Cobre. Its most important viewpoints are among the pine trees at 2,400 metres above sea level, with Cerro del Gallego, Mesa de Arturo and El Divisadero standing out. At the bottom runs the Urique River, which flows into the Pacific through the state of Sinaloa. Its name comes from the community of Urique, which is located at 500 metres above sea level at the bottom of the ravine, on the banks of the river, surrounded by beautiful semi‑tropical, hot vegetation. To get to El Divisadero or Posada Barrancas, you can go by road from Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, in approximately six hours (about 304 kilometres). The most traditional way to reach this beautiful place is on the Chihuahua al Pacífico railway, either by taking the train in the city of Chihuahua or in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
