Puebla Mexico

Puebla, set in the Puebla Valley and ringed by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains, is the capital of the state of Puebla and one of Mexico’s oldest Spanish-founded cities, established in 1531. It’s famed for its distinctive colonial architecture, rich cuisine, Talavera ceramics, onyx crafts and long-standing textile industry. The city’s historic centre is exceptionally well preserved, with a striking cathedral featuring two of the tallest church towers in Mexico, along with many other beautiful churches. Puebla also has lively arts and nightlife scenes. Los Sapos, the arts district, has a bohemian atmosphere and is packed with local artists’ workshops. Every Saturday and Sunday a flea market takes over the area, where you can pick up handicrafts and the odd antique. Puebla is a stunning celebration of Mexican architecture and history, and its warm, welcoming people fully live up to its reputation. With 22 churches and countless colonial-era buildings, the city fully merits its UNESCO World Heritage status.
