Roanne (French pronunciation: [ʁɔan]; Rouana in Arpitan) is a commune in the Loire department in central France. It lies 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Lyon on the Loire River. The town has an important museum, the Musée des Beaux-arts et d’Archéologie Joseph-Déchelette, which holds many Egyptian artefacts. Roanne is known for its gastronomy (largely thanks to the famous Troisgros family), textiles, agriculture, and tank manufacturing.
