Santa Maria di Castellabate is a town in southern Italy and a hamlet (frazione) of Castellabate, a municipality in the province of Salerno, Campania. It is the most populated frazione in its comune and is home to the town hall. In the 18th century the town was known as “Isca delle Chitarre”, which was the original settlement and is now the old town. The centre stretches around two squares, Piazza Matarazzo and Piazza Lucia, and the oldest houses are found facing the small harbour in an area known as “Porte le Gatte”.
