Barichara, Colombia

Barichara Colombia

In contrast to the modernity of the capital, Barichara stands out as a colonial town of exceptional beauty and preservation. Its Andalusian-style houses proudly display the skill of the patient stone carvers who shaped this village, rock by rock. It’s easy to take great photos as you stroll through its streets paved with clay-coloured stones, wander across tree-filled squares and admire façades of rammed-earth walls in houses roofed with terracotta tiles. From a viewpoint you can see the canyon of the Suárez River, where rafting is popular, and near the town you can visit the peaceful village of Guane. Barichara is a tricolour place: white, green and ochre dominate its stone streets, wooden balconies and stepped walls.
