Tsambika, Rhodes Greece

Tsambika Beach is a long, wide stretch of fine golden sand, dotted with colourful little flags marking out the different places to eat and the beach sports centres. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches on Rhodes. Tsambika (or Tsampika) combines extremes: bikini-clad sunseekers on a dream beach on one side, and devout pilgrims visiting a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary on the other. Popular with excursion boats, Tsambika is one of the loveliest and still largely unspoilt beaches on the east coast of Rhodes. It’s well visited, but even in high summer it rarely feels packed. On Tsambika Beach you’ll find water sports, beach showers, sun loungers and umbrellas for hire, plus several tavernas and snack bars, and a beach volleyball court. Do take care though: in the hottest months the sand gets so hot you’ll only manage to walk on it in sandals. It’s one of the warmest spots on the island. Towering above the bright, powdery sand is a steep 240‑metre rock crowned with a whitewashed chapel. A steep road followed by an equally steep flight of steps brings you to the “Kyra Panagia Tsambika” (Tsambika Monastery), a long‑standing place of pilgrimage for women who are struggling to conceive.
