Vicenza Italy

Vicenza is a city in northeastern Italy, located in the Veneto region at the northern foot of Monte Berico, where it spans the Bacchiglione River. Vicenza is a lively, cosmopolitan city with a rich history and culture, and it boasts many museums, art galleries, piazzas, villas, churches and elegant Renaissance palazzi. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Basilica Palladiana is a massive building on the city’s main square. It still features the old, leaning clock tower from a previous structure on the same site. • Loggia del Capitanio. • Teatro Olimpico, the oldest enclosed theatre in the world, is especially notable for its use of Renaissance perspective in a three-dimensional space. • Chiesa di Santa Corona. • Palazzo Leoni Montanari, a beautifully decorated palace, houses a good collection of Russian icons as well as capricci and paintings by Pietro Longhi. • Palazzo Valmarana Braga is a monumental palace designed by Palladio, and the first in his career to feature columns running the full length of the façade. • Palazzo Barbaran is the only palace in the city centre that Palladio both began and completed. • Palazzo Thiene, now the headquarters of a bank, has sadly had much of its interior altered to suit its current use.
