Zell am Ziller, Austria

Zell am Ziller Austria

It is the highest mountain in the Kaprun area at 3,203 metres, and the one that gives this place its distinctive character. It is considered the roof of Salzburg, the region where it is located. Thanks to this glacier, Zell am See has snow all year round and this is its main economic driver. Getting here is free if you have the Zell am See card, which you receive at no extra cost when you stay in the area. You need to take three funiculars from a station 6 km from Kaprun, and the journey from the town takes about half an hour. Once at the top you have magnificent views and can enjoy excellent restaurants with spectacular scenery all along the way. It’s a perfect blend of sporting and culinary experiences. As for skiing, there are top-quality runs for all levels, all of them very well linked by a network of lifts across the area. It’s well worth going up to the highest point to experience the “Top of Salzburg” and its superb views over Hohe Tauern National Park. You can also come up just for the visit, without skiing.
