Santa Cruz de la Sierra, commonly known as Santa Cruz, is the capital of the Santa Cruz department in eastern Bolivia. Located on the Piraí River in the east of the country, the city and its metropolitan area are home to over 70% of the department’s population and it is one of the fastest‑growing cities in the world. Santa Cruz is Bolivia’s most important business centre and the preferred destination for migrants from all over the country. The city offers an interesting circuit of cultural and art spaces, from natural history and religious art to the latest in contemporary art. There is a young art market that is growing quickly.
