Agia Galini, Crete Greece

Agia Galini is a village on the island of Crete in Greece. It is part of the municipality of Makrys Gialos and lies about 15 kilometers east of Ierapetra. Once a small fishing village, it developed in the 1970s and 1980s into a mass tourism center thanks to its idyllic location. Today, Agia Galini offers many hotels, guesthouses, tavernas, bars, clubs, and a holiday camp. In addition to tourism, agriculture—especially greenhouse cultivation—is an important source of income for the surrounding area. Off the coast lie the Paximadia islets, and there is also a nearby military zone with restricted access.
