Ammoudara, Crete Greece

Ammoudara is a long beach that starts from the Giofyros River, about 1 km west of the center of Heraklion, and extends to the mouth of the Almyros River, 7 km further west. Ammoudara is now a suburb of Heraklion and attracts thousands of visitors every year, mainly because of its long sandy beach. The beach has fine, brownish sand, and there is a rocky strip about 50 m from the shore running parallel to the beach, marking the ancient coastline.
