County Antrim United Kingdom

County Antrim is one of six counties that make up Northern Ireland. Located on the northeast shore of Lough Neagh, it covers an area of 3,046 square kilometers (1,176 square miles) and has a population of about 618,000. County Antrim has a population density of 203 people per square kilometer (526 per square mile). It is one of the 32 traditional counties of Ireland and part of the historic province of Ulster. The Glens of Antrim feature remote, rugged scenery; the Giant’s Causeway is a unique landscape and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Bushmills is known for its whiskey; and Portrush is a popular seaside resort and nightlife destination. Most of Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, lies within County Antrim, with the rest in County Down. According to the 2001 census, County Antrim is one of only two counties in Ireland where a majority of the population comes from a Protestant background, the other being County Down to the south.
