The Alpujarra Spain

The Alpujarra is a natural and historical region in Andalusia, Spain, on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada and in the adjacent valley. The average elevation is about 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) above sea level. It extends across two provinces, Granada and Almería, and is sometimes referred to in the plural as “Las Alpujarras.” The name is of Arabic origin, probably derived from al-basharāt (البَشَرَات), meaning roughly “mountain range of pastures.” The administrative center of the area in the province of Granada is Órgiva, while in the province of Almería it is Alhama de Almería.
