Bayreuth, Germany

Bayreuth Germany

Bayreuth is a city in the Bavarian administrative region of Upper Franconia. It was first mentioned in 1194 as Baierrute, and almost 40 years later, in 1231, it was first described as a city. In the 18th century, Margravine Wilhelmine, sister of Frederick II of Prussia, came to Bayreuth and gave it the baroque cityscape that is still visible today. Among other things, the Margrave’s Opera House, the chapel of the New Palace, and the Temple of the Sun and New Palace were built or expanded. Bayreuth is a very pleasant town with grand boulevards, pedestrian streets, many lovely 18th‑century buildings, a beautiful palace (Schloss), a magnificent opera house, plenty of parks and gardens, many beautiful fountains, and a wealth of impressive baroque and rococo architecture.
