Covadonga Spain

Covadonga’s importance in Asturias and in Spain has made its sanctuary a true symbol, rooted in both the legend and the history of this place. The Holy Cave (Santa Cueva) has become an almost pilgrimage center, around which the Covadonga basilica and complex were built in 1887, thanks in large part to Roberto Frassinelli, the “German from Corao,” in homage to the Santina (the Virgin of Covadonga). Inside the complex, which cannot be reached by car, you’ll find a restaurant, a museum, and the rest of the site’s buildings. The surrounding gardens also offer wonderful panoramic views of the area.
