Altopascio Italy

Altopascio, one of the main municipalities in the province of Lucca, has a rich history of traditions and culture. In fact, the town appears in medieval history as an important stop for travelers along the famous Via Francigena and as a center of hospitality, serving as the seat of the Knights of Tau, who remain the symbol of the town. Altopascio is also famous for its bread, hence the name “The City of Bread.” The Town Council has joined the association of the same name, which aims to promote the recognition and enhancement of bread and specific types of bread linked to certain areas. Altopascio includes the villages of Badia Pozzeveri, Marginone, Spianate, and Turchetto. It enjoys a strategic location for tourism: about 40 minutes from the Versilia coast, Pisa, and Florence; 15 minutes from Lucca and Montecatini Terme; and about 1 hour from the Chianti hills and from major art cities and medieval towns in Tuscany such as Siena, San Gimignano, and Certaldo.
