Dolo Italy

Dolo is a town and comune in the Province of Venice, in the Veneto region of Italy. It is one of the towns along the Riviera del Brenta. The growth of Dolo is closely connected to the decline of Venice’s maritime power. Dolo’s economic importance has long been tied to its water mills, which processed wheat from the surrounding agricultural lands. Drinking water was also transported from Dolo to the historic center of Venice. The area underwent extensive hydraulic engineering works designed primarily to prevent the gradual flooding of the Venetian lagoon and thus preserve the city of Venice. The water level of the navigable waterways was controlled by a system of locks, which can still be seen today in the center of Dolo.
