Gipuzkoa borders the French department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques to the northeast, the province and autonomous community of Navarre to the east, Biscay to the west, Álava to the southwest, and the Bay of Biscay to the north. It is located at the easternmost end of the Cantabrian Sea, on the Bay of Biscay, and has 66 kilometres (41 miles) of coastline. With a total area of 1,980 square kilometres (760 square miles), Gipuzkoa is the smallest province in Spain.
