Pampaneira Spain

Pampaneira is a village located in the province of Granada, Spain. It is one of three mountain villages in the Barranco de Poqueira in the Alpujarras region; the other two, Bubión and Capileira, are situated higher up in the Poqueira Gorge. The Poqueira Gorge begins below the summit of Mulhacén, where the Poqueira River rises. The area offers many hiking opportunities. Guided walks are organized by local tourist offices, which also sell mountain hiking equipment, and other companies arrange self-guided treks. The nearest major town is Órgiva. Nearby to the east, in the mountains above the three villages, is Trevélez, one of the highest year-round inhabited mountain villages in Spain. Accommodation is available in all three villages, though Capileira offers the widest range of facilities. To the north, the Sierra Nevada range opens up, featuring some of the highest peaks in Spain, including Mulhacén and Alcazaba.
