Huntington Beach, founded in 1909, is a city in Orange County in the U.S. state of California. Its name honors Henry E. Huntington, an American businessman, railroad magnate, and collector of art and rare books. The city borders the Pacific Ocean to the west, Seal Beach to the north, Costa Mesa to the south, Westminster to the northeast, and Fountain Valley to the east. The city is known for its 8.5‑mile (13.7 km) beach and for its excellent surfing conditions. The waves have a unique natural character due to the currents that arrive from Santa Catalina Island.
