Legnano is a historic city and municipality in the province of Milan, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of central Milan, in the Lombardy region of Italy. With around 60,000 residents, it is one of the most populous towns in Lombardy. The city lies in the Alto Milanese area and is crossed by the Olona River. Legnano has a rich history dating back to Roman times and is best known for the Battle of Legnano in 1176, when the Lombard League defeated Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, a key event in Italian history. Today, Legnano is a vibrant urban center that combines medieval landmarks and historic architecture with modern services, shopping, and cultural attractions.
