The Metropolitan City of Naples is an Italian metropolitan city in the Campania region, established on January 1, 2015. Its capital is Naples, and it includes 92 municipalities (comuni). It was originally created through local government reform (Law 142/1990) and formally established by Law 56/2014, replacing the former Province of Naples in 2015. The Metropolitan City of Naples is governed by the Metropolitan Mayor (Sindaco metropolitano) and the Metropolitan Council (Consiglio metropolitano). Since January 1, 2015, its head has been Luigi de Magistris, who is also the mayor of the capital city.
