Navacerrada Spain

Navacerrada is a municipality in the Community of Madrid, Spain. It sits at an elevation of 1,203 metres (3,947 ft) on the Navacerrada Reservoir and at the entrance to the “Valle de la Barranca” in the Sierra de Guadarrama. Located 52 kilometres (32 mi) from Madrid, it has only about 2,500 permanent residents, but the population grows in winter due to visitors. The Puerto de Navacerrada mountain pass has a ski resort that is very popular with winter sports enthusiasts. It offers a ski school as well as various restaurants, hotels, and other accommodations. Although relatively close to Madrid, Navacerrada has a Mediterranean climate with cool to warm summers due to its elevation (Köppen: Csb), or a dry-summer continental climate (Dsb) using the 0 °C isotherm. Winters are usually on average a few degrees cooler than in the Spanish capital. The town has a clearly dry summer, but high rainfall can occur between spring and autumn, with lower precipitation only in late winter, rather than gradually decreasing in the transitional seasons.
