Nubra Valley India

Nubra Valley is a subdivision and tehsil in the Indian union territory of Ladakh. Its inhabited areas form a tri-armed valley carved by the Nubra and Shyok Rivers. Its Tibetan name, Ldumra, means “the valley of flowers.” Diskit, the headquarters of Nubra, lies about 150 km north of Leh, the capital of Ladakh. The Shyok River meets the Nubra (or Siachan) River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. The Shyok River is a tributary of the Indus River. The average altitude of the valley is about 10,000 ft (3,048 meters) above sea level. The most common way to access the valley is by traveling over the Khardung La pass from the town of Leh. Foreign nationals must obtain a Protected Area Permit to visit Nubra Valley. Since April 1, 2017, Indian citizens are also required to get an Inner Line Permit to visit the valley.
