Baerum is a municipality in Akershus County, Norway. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Sandvika. Baerum was established as a municipality on January 1, 1838. A suburb of Oslo, Baerum is located on the west side of the city. Baerum has the highest income per capita in Norway and the highest proportion of university-educated individuals. Baerum, particularly its eastern neighborhoods bordering Oslo’s West End, is one of Norway’s most expensive and fashionable residential areas, which has led to Baerum’s residents often being stereotyped as snobbish in Norwegian popular culture. The municipality has been voted the best place to live in Norway when considering governance and public services for citizens.
