Orvieto is a city and municipality in the Province of Terni, southwestern Umbria, Italy, located on the flat top of a large volcanic tuff butte. The location of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the nearly vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are finished with defensive walls made of the same stone known as Tufa.
