Shunyi District is an administrative district of Beijing, located northeast of the city’s urban core. As of 2014, it has a population of about 983,000 people, of whom approximately 601,000 hold local residency permits. Beijing Capital International Airport lies within the district’s geographic boundaries, although it is officially administered by Chaoyang District. Shunyi borders Pinggu District to the east, Tongzhou to the south, Chaoyang to the southwest, Changping to the west, Huairou to the north, Miyun to the northeast, and Hebei Province to the southeast. Shunyi is also home to large communities of foreign expatriates.
