Udawalawe Sri Lanka

Udawalawe (also known as Udawalawa) is a small town situated in the southern region of the Ratnapura District in Sri Lanka. It is located near the district's border with the Hambantota District and Monaragala District. This town serves as the primary gateway to the Udawalawe National Park, a significant National Park in Sri Lanka known for its large population of wild Asian elephants. The Udawalawe National Park, which is approximately 160 km away from Colombo, is the nearest national park to Colombo. The town is also recognized for the Udawalawe Reservoir, which was established in 1969 after the construction of a 3.9 km dam and a 6 MW hydro-electic plant on the Walawe river. This reservoir is the third largest in Sri Lanka.
