Zagora, Morocco Morocco

Zagora is a town located in the valley of the Draa River in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region of southeastern Morocco. The town is named after the nearby Zagora mountain. At the summit of this mountain, you can still see the remains of an Almoravid fortress. Climbing Jebel Zagora is highly recommended. There are enjoyable walks along the river and in the surrounding irrigated areas. Just 18 km to the south, Tamegroute is home to a renowned ancient library. One notable feature is the sign indicating the road to Timbuktu, which is easy to spot just a few meters from the roundabout where the road splits left to Mhamid and right to the airport. Auberge Restaurant Chez Ali, located on the way to the river, is worth visiting for its remarkable garden.
