Silao Mexico

Silao is a municipality in the state of Guanajuato. Its main productive sectors are agriculture and industry, and it forms part of the Bajío industrial corridor (Silao, León, Guanajuato, Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya). Main tourist attractions: - Parish of St James: construction began in the late 17th century and was completed in 1728; its style is Neoclassical. - Shrine-Temple: built in the late 17th century. - Temple of the Retreat House: built in 1834. - Municipal Palace: formerly used as the municipal prison and council offices. - González Obregón Market. - Monument to Christ the King: construction began on 10 December 1945 and was completed on 17 August 1949. The statue measures 20 metres from head to toe and stands on Cubilete Hill, considered the geographic centre of the country.
