Herning is a Danish city located in the centre of the Jutland peninsula and is the capital of the municipality of the same name, in the Central Jutland Region. It currently has a population of just over 46,000 inhabitants. Herning is situated in an area with a total population of just over 1,000,000. The city lies in a heathland area traditionally associated with wool production and the textile industry. Although its origins date back to the Middle Ages, the town really developed in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, making it a relatively young city with no historic buildings. In terms of population, Herning is the fourth-largest city in the Central Jutland Region and the eleventh-largest in Denmark.
